Aside from a few early films (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure) his best work has come about when he hasn't had to rely so heavily on his usual cartoony style. Big Eyes was good for modern Burton but still doesn't hold a candle to Burton at his peak. The less said about Planet of the Apes the better. Alice and Charlie have no redeeming qualities. Mars Attacks was a fun B-movie and gets right everything Dark Shadows failed miserably at. Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie and Sleepy Hollow were serviceable but nothing noteworthy.
